Dave Mahoney - Dance Bio - A brief summary
In the late 1970’s, my parents were Square Dancers and got me involved as a teenager. They belonged to two Dance Clubs, danced at large social dances (100 couples) every week and went to special weekend events.
Of course, I thought that was all “Square” and turned to Rock n Roll. It was not until years later when I discovered Rueda de Casino that I re-entered the charming world of connected partner dancing.
That re-awakening was in 2001.
2001 - Began taking weekly classes and club dancing.
2006 - Began teaching in Oregon mainly to increase my local dance community.
2008 - Founded Eugene Casineros as a community based Social Dance Group and began hosting weekly 3 hour Social Rueda sessions continuing until 2016.
2009 - 2012 - Eugene Casineros perform at San Francisco Salsa Rueda Festival. Videos on You Tube. Began traveling to Mexico City to study with CMV con Ritmo and Timba Casino and Cuba for Baila En Cuba 2009.
2012 - Began teaching in Playa del Carmen, Escuela ‘Encubate’.
Began working with Jose Barretto of Boston Rueda.
2013 - Began Developing Rueda Trebol, a variation of Rueda Llanta.
2014 - Began teaching Rueda Trebol in Mexico and Rueda Festival Boston (RFB) and met Brent Rygg from Norway. Developed Rueda Trebol Infinita after studying other structure concepts that make it work. Became a member and International Ambassador for the Rueda Alliance, created by Jose Barretto.
2015 - 2019 - Traveling and teaching all over Europe. Teaching at 5 RFB’s, 2 SalsaNor Rueda Congress’, 2 Stockholm Rueda Festivals, and attended on average 10 dance festival per year, such as Salsa Diabolica Summer Dance Camp in Hungary, Horuce Tatry in Slovakia, Hola Ohrid in Macedonia, Stuttgart Rueda Festival in Germany and many more.
To date I have taught and/or danced Rueda in 20 countries. My passion is to travel and learn how everyone else dances Rueda and then share that knowledge with others.
2019 - 2021 - Pandemic break from travel.
Winter ’21 - ’22 - Lived and taught Rueda 2x/week x 5 months on Cozumel with Cozumel Salsa Fusion.
Winter ‘22 - ’23 plans - Rueda Vacation 2023 and 2 Rueda Weekend Intensives on Cozumel Mexico. Weekly Rueda classes with Cozumel Salsa Fusion.
