The workshop focuses on exploring and assimilating the technique of contemporary realism, with the aim of familiarizing students with the techniques and theory that they can apply in their artistic creation process. Modules will be taught that cover the sketching of ideas, as well as the development of still life, landscape or human figure portrait depending on particular artistic interests. At the end of the workshop, students will have solid practical and theoretical tools to enrich their artistic learning.


Materials Required:

Oils: Toasted shadow, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson red, or equivalent, lemon yellow, and titanium white. These oil paints are available in various brands and sizes, depending on your economic resources. As the quality increases, a superior finish is achieved, but even economical oils like the "Pinto" brand fulfill their function satisfactorily.
**For acrylic painters, the same colours except red is cadmium red.

Odorless solvent (provided in the workshop),
Brushes, at least two large, two medium, and two small, both round and flat, can be synthetic or natural hair, and a thin brush size 000.
Palette,
Rags, you can bring your own reference or work with the ones we will provide.
High-quality photographic reference, printed in letter size or digital on your smartphone/tablet (can be an object, a portrait, or a landscape),
Palette knife,
Charcoal (provided in the workshhop).

*Canvas: not larger than 27.55 x 27. 55 inches (70 x 70 cm); cardboard can be used as a canvas to reduce costs.

*(Optional) Experienced students can bring their pre-drawn reference on the canvas or surface.

// Materials can be purchased affordably at: Lumen, La Casa del Arte, Casa Serra, or at the store "El Fenix" located in the Zócalo.


Thematic Content

REVIEWING THEORY

- Choosing the subject and sketching. -Materials and lighting.

- Preparing the canvas, Imprimatura. -Finalizing the preparatory drawing. - Theory and color mixing.

- Underpainting or first layers of color. - Second layer of color.

-Glazing or final details.

-Taking painting beyond its limits, deconstruction, and reconstruction.

The painting process is recorded in case the students cannot attend or so they can watch it as many times as necessary, the video is uploaded to a private playlist that is only for those enrolled in the workshop.
